The areas of Los Altos that are used in the Multiple Listing Services are defined by the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors (SILVAR) and published by the Multiple Listing Services and Barclay Maps. These are for exclusive use by the Realtors who are members of SILVAR and subscribe to the MLS. The program helps distinguish between properties, helps Realtors locate and describe properties, and assists in searches for various types of properties.
Area 211 – North Los Altos
This area runs North of El Monte Avenue to the Palo Alto city limit, and from El Camino Real to Foothill Expressway, with a small section near El Monte that extends to the West of Foothill for section. It contains the downtown, City Hall, Santa Rita and Almond Elementary Schools, Los Altos High School, and Egan Middle School. The area contains two shopping districts: The Downtown Shopping District located at the town center; and the Town Square Center located at El Camino Real. The main characteristic of this area is that it is flat, quarter acre lots that surround the downtown area of Los Altos.
Area 212 – Country Club
This area runs Southwest of Foothill Expressway from Magdalena Avenue to the South at Permanente Creek. It also includes the unincorporated area just North of Magdalena near Foothill Expressway. The dominant characteristic of this area is that it surrounds the Los Altos Golf and Country Club and has various sized, rolling foothill lots.
Area 213 – Highlands
This area runs Southwest of Foothill Expressway from Permanente Creek to Highway 280 and includes rolling foothills and surrounds Montclaire Elementary School. This area attends the Fremont Union School District for elementary and middle schools, and Homestead High School.
Area 214 – South of El Monte
This area runs along Foothill Expressway from South of El Monte Avenue to the city limits of Mountain View as it meanders Southeast all the way to the South edge of Los Altos. This area has flat, quarter acre lots and contains the Loyola, Miramonte, and Oak Elementary Schools, Mountain View High School, and Blach Middle School. The southern end of this area attends the Fremont Union School District for elementary and middle schools, and Homestead High School.
Area 221 – Los Altos Hills
This area runs generally from Foothills Expressway all the way out to Moody Road high in the foothills. The southern end of this area starts pushing out towards Highway 280 as the boundary meanders southward to the Highlands Area. The area encompasses various sized lots, most over one acre in size, has views of much of the valley, and is generally considered a very affluent community. The City of Los Altos hills is an independent municipality from Los Altos with its own governing council, but shares the school district and is part of the Los Altos School District. The northern portion of Los Altos Hills is part of the Palo Alto Unified School District. This area also surrounds Foothill College and Fremont Hills Country Club.
